The Museo Mural Diego Rivera is home to one of Diego Rivera’s most famous works, Sueño de una tarde dominical en la Alameda Central (Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda Central), a mural painted in 1947 where the painter re-imagined many of the figures who walked past the city streets, going from colonial times onward.
Among the characters you'll find in the painting are Hernán Cortés, Benito Juárez, Porfirio Díaz and Francisco I. Madero, all of them grouped around a Catrina (skeleton in pre-revolutionary women’s garb). Rivera himself, as well as Frida Kahlo, are located standing beside the skeleton.
The museum was built in 1986 to house the mural, after its original location, the Hotel del Prado, was wrecked by the 1985 earthquake.
Don't miss the chance of visiting some of the most representative works of the famous Mexican artist.
