The Museo de Arte Popular Popular Art Museum is located in what used to be an old fire house in the heart of Mexico City's Downtown area, and is devoted to promote and preserve part of the traditional Mexican handcrafts and folk art. Among the large collection of objects you'll find in this museum are textiles, pottery, glass, piñatas, alebrijes, furniture and much more. You can even find a car covered in traditional huichol decoration at the entrance of the building.
This museum is more known for the Night of the Alebrijes parade, celebrated both in the museum and all the way across Reforma Avenue. During this event, the fantastical creatures which are constructed on a monumental scale, tour around the most representative avenue of the city: Reforma, and then go back to Zocalo.
This museum opened in March 2006, and besides the exhibits, it's seat for workshops and other events to both Mexican and foreign tourism.
